Salmon Festival Concert Lineup Announced
Councilor James Courtney, Chairperson for the 2009 Exploits Valley Salmon Festival, announced the lineup today for the Salmon Festival concert. Headlining Newfoundland’s largest outdoor concert is the award winning “Our Lady Peace” and International Superstar Akon. Also appearing at this year’s 25th Annual Exploits Valley Salmon Festival are Special guests Johnny Reid, Tara Oram, Hey Rosetta, the Navigators and Papa String. Hosting this year’s concert is YouTube phenomena Donnie Dumphy.
This year’s Salmon Festival concert will be held on Saturday, July 18th . Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 22 at all North Atlantic Petroleum outlets across the province with the Early Bird price of $49.50 and will be available until June 30th. Our Lady Peace (OLP) has sold over five million albums worldwide, won four Juno Awards, and won ten MuchMusic Video Awards. OLP has released six studio albums, one live album, and two compilation albums. Their new self- produced album Burn Burn will be in stores July 21st.
Making his first ever Newfoundland appearance, International Superstar Akon has worldwide sales of over 7 million albums, certified gold and platinum status in over 23 countries, hundreds of guest appearances, and the record for the first artist to have the #1 and #2 songs simultaneously on the Billboard charts twice.
Country star Johnny Reid’s also makes his first visit to Newfoundland. His hit, “A Woman like You” is currently the #1 most added single in Canada. His current album, “Dance with Me” is the #2 selling Country Album in Canada. Johnny Reid was named the 2008 CCMA Male Artist, as well as having the 2008 CCMA Top Selling Album in Canada (Kicking Stones), and was the 2007 CCMA Rising Star. Other cuts on his album include “Brings me home” and “A Moon to Remember”.
Tara Oram walked away with the Country Recording of the Year for her debut album, 'Chasing the Sun' at the East Coast Music Awards in Corner Brook recently and was nominated for a 2009 Juno Award as well. Tara Oram can be seen regularly on the CMT network and is currently starring in her own television series on that network, “The Tara Diaries” and her hit, “Go to bed angry” is rising up the charts quickly.
Hey Rosetta! has quickly bloomed and grew from bars on George Street to showcases at Junofest, ECMAs, CMW and NXNE, along the way winning four MusicNL Awards and three ECMA awards. Having just released” Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood)”, Hey Rosetta is guaranteed to put off another great show this year.
Also performing are favorites “The Navigators” and “Papa String”. This year’s show host, Donnie Dumphy, will also appear at the Red Cliff Rocks campgrounds on Friday evening.
Mayor Rex Barnes is looking forward to this year’s Salmon Festival and indicated that fans of all ages will be pleased with this year’s line-up.
