Mayor Al Hawkins

_K9W8140.JPG First elected to council in 1993 and re-elected in 1997. From 2000 until present Mr. Hawkins has been working in the business community. Al Hawkins was elected as Mayor in September of 2009. He has resided in Grand Falls-Windsor for approximately 36 years. He served on all committees of Council, including 3 years as Chair of Economic development, chair of Recreation, Public Works and Multicultural committee. Mayor Hawkins has served as Chair of Exploits Valley Economic Development Corporation and President of Exploits Regional Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Hawkins is Ex-Officio of all Council committees.

 Mayor Hawkins is actively involved in many other community groups and organizations, some of which include: volunteering with Allied Youth, leader of church teen cell group, Director of Finance with Salvation Army Circular Road, Sprucewood School breakfast program, chair of Kiwanis Auction Committee, Treasurer of Alzheimer’s Association of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Mayor Hawkins has been working as Mortgage consultant with Dominion Lending for the past year.

Deputy Mayor Anne Blackmore

K9W8123.JPGElected to council in September of 2009, Anne Blackmore has resided in Grand Falls-Windsor for approximately 22 years, having been born and raised here. She lived in St. John’s for a few years where she worked as a Nurse and she has recently returned home to live.  She is a member of the following council committees:

•    Parks, Recreation & Special Events
•    Finance & Administration
•    Exploits Valley Salmon Festival: Chair
•    EXCITE Corporation

Councilor Blackmore is involved with the Newfoundland Nurses Union and is in the process of working on her Masters in Nursing from Memorial University. Having just returned home she also hopes to become involved with her church choir and a youth sp
orts team.

Councilor Blackmore is currently employed with the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre as a Registered Nurse.

  Councilor Roger Barnett


K9W8155.JPG Councilor Barnett was first elected to council in the January 29, 2008 by-election filling the seat vacated by then Deputy Mayor Susan Sullivan. He was re-elected to council in September of 2009. Councilor Barnett has resided in Grand Falls-Windsor for approximately 35 years. He is a member of the following council committees:

•    Public Works & Planning: Chair
•    Finance & Administration
•    Exploits Regional Services Board

Councillor Barnett is actively involved in many other community groups and organizations, some of which include: Lions Club, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador: Senior hockey representative for central Newfoundland, and volunteer with several organizations / charities.


Councilor Barnett has been employed Steele Communications/ Newcap Inc. for 36 years.

  Councilor Jean Buffett-Mercer

K9W8129.JPGElected to council in September of 2009, Councilor Mercer has resided in Grand Falls-Windsor for approximately 40 years. She is a member of the following council committees:

•    Public Works & Planning
•    Economic Development & Tourism
•    Sanger Memorial R.V. Park: Chair
•    EXCITE Corporation
•    Exploits Valley Development Association

Councilor Mercer is actively involved in many other community groups and organizations, some of which include: Exploits Valley SPCA, Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, The look Good Feel Better Program for Cancer Survivors. She has received the Senator A, McGrand Award and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Volunteerism.
 
Councilor Mercer worked in Health Care in various capacities in this area. She has also been employed by Canadian Blood Services and is presently teaching with the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at the Grand Falls Campus of the College of the North Atlantic.

She raised three daughters in GFW and has three grandchildren.


  Councilor Amy Coady-Davis

Elected to council in September of 2009, Councilor Coady-Davis has resided in Grand Falls-Windsor for approximately 34 years. She is a member of the following council committees: 

    * Parks, Recreation & Special Events
    * Economic Development & Tourism: Chair
    * Exploits Valley Salmon Festival
    * EXCITE Corporation
    * Exploits Valley Economic Development Corporation

Councillor Coady-Davis is actively involved in many other community groups and organizations, some of which include: St. Catherine’s Renewal Centre Planning Committee, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Confirmation Preparation Committee, Exploits Valley YMCA, Woodland Primary Parent Volunteer. 

Councilor Coady-Davis is employed at The Golden Years Estate.

 Councilor Darren Finn

Councillor Finn’s previous experiences include:

•    8 years as an Economic Development Officer with the EVEDC
•    Executive Director of the Exploits Valley Tourism Association.
•    Chairperson of the Concerned Citizens Committee for Abitibi-Bowater
•    Chairperson of the Central Newfoundland Tourism Committee
•    President of the St. Mary’s University Student Council
•    Tourism Marketing Manager with the Kittiwake Coat Tourism Association
•    Pub Manager with St Mary’s University Gorsebrook Pub
•   Provincial Park Ranger

Councilor Finn is currently employed by the Provincial Government

Councilor Moores retired after several years working in Public Services.
